TR150: ECO CHAI CUP

MOHITHAMYTHILI A/P SITHAMBARAM PILLAY Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah

Plastic, paper, and polystyrene cups pose serious environmental problems as they don’t decompose naturally and pollute land and oceans. To address this, we developed a biodegradable cup using coconut fibre waste, recycled tea leaves, rice starch paste, and food-grade wax. Our goal was to explore how agricultural waste could replace harmful materials. We made samples, tested their strength and decomposition, and gathered user feedback. Results showed the cups break down faster and are durable for short-term use, though cost and storage durability remain challenges. This innovation shows strong potential to reduce pollution and support sustainable production and consumption.
