Endodontic infections caused by persistent bacteria such as Enterococcus faecalis remain a major challenge in root canal therapy. Conventional medicaments like calcium hydroxide show limited effect against resistant strains. Nigella sativa, also known as Habbatus Sauda, contains thymoquinone with proven antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. This study evaluated the antibacterial potential of Nigella sativa extract against E. faecalis and compared it with calcium hydroxide. The extract showed strong inhibition and anti-adherence effects. These findings suggest Nigella sativa as a promising natural alternative for improving disinfection and healing in endodontic treatment.
