The innovation is an upgraded version of our previous invention called tetraCal. The main objective of this innovation is to provide a unified platform in the form of a MATLAB GUI that allows users to both visualize a tetrahedron in 3D Cartesian coordinates and accurately compute some of its properties. Similar to the previous version of the MATLAB GUI, this innovation receives the coordinates of all vertices of the tetrahedron as inputs before displaying the tetrahedron in a 3D graph and computing the related surface area and volume. However, in this version, not only the surface area and volume are provided, but also the center of the tetrahedron. In addition, this version allows users to rotate the tetrahedron graph in the window to achieve better visualization. Here, the same concepts of vectors, dot products, and cross products have been extended from our previous algorithm for this innovation.
The GUI has many potential applications, such as in education, where it helps students visualize and explore geometric concepts such as surface area, volume, and centroid of a tetrahedron, promoting a deeper understanding of 3D geometry and vector operations through interactive learning. Meanwhile, in geodesy, the GUI can be used to model and analyze three-dimensional spatial structures, aiding in terrain modeling, volumetric calculations, and subsurface mapping based on coordinate data. Furthermore, the GUI can be integrated into algorithms for simulating object detection using metal detectors or electrosensing fish. Therefore, this innovation encourages collaboration among academics, researchers, and programmers, and it can be incorporated into relevant industries or institutions. It also provides many benefits to society and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
It supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by making mathematics more engaging and practical, as well as by increasing technical and scientific knowledge among people. In addition, our innovation also supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) as it fosters innovation in research and enhances industrial applications through STEM. We hope that our innovation can contribute to achieving a better and more sustainable world.
