TR40: TERTIARY INVENTOR (Mokirongou, Mintong, Mirati Harmony: The Harmony Lens Workshop Kit For Understanding Multicultural Malaysia)

JOHAN JOHNES UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA SABAH

Mokirongou, Mintong, Mirati are Kadazandusun for Listen, See, Understand respectively. These words embody the intercultural learning philosophy behind the Harmony Lens Workshop Kit. The kit was designed especially for undergraduates and/or postgraduates to conduct ethical, culturally sensitive interviews in Malaysia’s multiethnic settings. Adapted from the Harmony-in-Action CDA Toolkit, it introduces “harmony cues” such as dialect accommodation, politeness markers, and reciprocal speech acts. Through reflection templates, cue cards, and mock interviews, students learn to listen deeply, see respectfully, and understand empathetically. The kit enhances research and communication skills while fostering authentic appreciation of Malaysia’s plural realities, beginning with Sabah’s model of lived multiculturalism.
